Journal of Social Science Education (JSSE)
Concept of the journal
The Journal of Social Science Education (JSSE) was founded in 2000 as "sowi-onlinejournal" in order to offer the disciplines in the field of social science education a representative scholarly professional publication.
The journal represents a sophisticated image that is characterised by its theory orientation, interdisciplinary approach, internationalism and originality as well as by an anonymous peer review.
Theory orientation
The Journal of Social Science Education (JSSE) is a theory orientated journal in the field of social science education and the related disciplines. The theoretical discussion on education, teaching and learning is in the centre of interest; it is taken for granted that the theory orientated view upon teaching-learning experiences and the discussion about empirical research methods belong to it.
Interdisciplinary approach
The JSSE promotes the dialogue among the disciplines of social science education and between them and the disciplines of the social sciences. It is committed to the ideas of co-operation and interdisciplinary approach. That is why the journal prefers themes which are relevant for at least two specialist disciplines of social science education or social sciences.
Internationalism
The JSSE offers a panel for the dialogue across national borders and puts a particular stress on the European idea. That is why the journal prefers themes that are of multi- or supranational, especially European relevance and contributions that deal with field related discourse in Europe.
Originality
In addition to the already mentioned aspects the JSSE prefers contributions that stimulate and enrich the scholarly discourse through their originality, e.g. by developing new concepts, applying unconventional methods or exceeding the borders of conventional discourses.
Quality standards
The published discourse in the field of social science education is characterised by a certain confusion and considerable differences of quality. The Journal of Social Science Education (JSSE) opposes this by introducing survey articles about the main topics and completing them by collected reviews. On the other side the JSSE commits itself to a consistent peer-review process, in which every contribution has to be presented to two anonymous reviewers. At last not requested reviews are principally not accepted for publication.
