Wolfgang Hilligen
Wolfgang Hilligen (1916-2003) war bis zu seiner Emeritierung Professor für Didaktik der Gesellschaftswissenschaften an der Universität Gießen. Er gilt als Nestor der politischen Bildung in Deutschland. "Wer fragt, ist ein Narr für ein paar Minuten, wer nicht fragt, bleibt es ein Leben lang." Dieses chinesische Sprichwort zitiert er in einem seiner ersten Aufsätze zu "Die Schülerfrage. Versuch einer Typologie " (1951). Es bleibt sein didaktisches Programm in der reformpädagogischen Tradition von Hugo Gaudig. Nachrufe u.a. in Gesellschaft-Wirtschaft-Politik 1/2003, Polis 1/2003, Politische Bildung 1/2003.

Andreas Petrik
Andreas Petrik, born in 1968, was research assistant in the field of social science didactics at Hamburg University, department of education, is still a member of the department's PhD program "Bildungsgangforschung" (Research on learner development) and is currently working as a high school teacher for civic education, history, German and drama.

Catherine Lewis
Currently a senior research scientist at Mills College, Catherine Lewis comes from several generations of public school teachers. Fluent in Japanese, has conducted research in Japanese and U.S. schools for 25 years. Her writings and videotapes, including 'Lesson Study: A Handbook of Teacher-Led Instructional Change' and 'Can You Lift 100 Kilograms?' have introduced many U.S. educators to lesson study. A graduate of Harvard University (B.A.) and Stanford University (Ph.D.), she directs the NSF-funded project, 'Lesson Study: Case Studies of an Emerging Reform', and is author of more than 40 publications on elementary education and child development, including the award-winning book Educating Hearts and Minds: Reflections on Japanese Preschool and Elementary Education (Cambridge University Press, 1995).
